[Major Update] The Achievement Badge System

The first step was by of course founding the BMC and getting people outside together. Setting up the website and tracking user hiking statistics. Then we had our Dropping Game in 2019 and its successor, the Orienteering Game.

The next step was to reward hikers for their efforts by rewarding achievements. This meant setting achievement goals and tracking the progress. And then, once a goal is met to reward it with a pretty badge. So now we're happy, to introduce the Achievement Badge System. We're starting off with 64 badges you can achieve. For those who have already been hiking with us, good news, your progress has been tracked all this time through your event statistics.

Starting right now you can browse over to your statistics and scroll down. There you'll get an overview of all achieved and available badges. Click on a badge to get detailed information about each badge, how to achieve it and what other badges are related to it. Some also show a progress bar to show you how far along you are to earning the badge!

A new block has also been added to your familiar statistics. This achievement block shows how many goals you have achieved, and how many you can achieve in total. The total amount of achievements might differ from person to person because, for one, badges that you can't receive will not be counted. These are typically badges for unique events that are in the past and you haven't attended.

We offer achievements in different categories like total distance, people met, temperature, profile settings and more. You can view all badges you can achieve on your profile, grayed out. There are also some special hidden achievements that you won't know about until you achieved it or if you hear about it from others. Over time more achievements will be added so that there are always goals to reach for you and keep the gamification going.

We hope you are going to enjoy the new addition to the Bayreuth Mountain Club platform and that it motivates you to join us on more hikes, climbs, canoeing, orienteering, camping and many other upcoming events.

Because this is a new and complex system held together with some duct tape and hope it might be that you encounter one or more bugs. If so please let us know in the comment.
