About us
The story behind the Bayreuth Mountain Club
Adventure calls, and we answer. We're a passionate group of nature-lovers based in Bayreuth — hiking, biking and climbing our way through the Bavarian countryside, and sharing the trail with anyone who wants to come along.
Our origin story
It was a chance encounter that sparked a lifelong friendship and a shared passion. In late 2017, Girish and Teejo met at a Couchsurfing event in Bayreuth, Germany. It was there that they discovered their shared love for hiking and decided to explore the picturesque landscape around the city. With Girish's experience starting a mountain club in the UAE, the idea to do the same in Bayreuth was born.
Starting with just three people on their first hike around Hollfeld, the group quickly grew as word spread about their weekend adventures. Before long, more and more people joined in, eager to experience the thrill of exploring the great outdoors with like-minded enthusiasts.
Who we are
Whether it's scaling a mountain, conquering a hike, or feeling the wind in our hair on a bike ride, we live for the thrill of being active and immersed in nature. For us, there's no such thing as bad weather — only inadequate gear. We can't wait to share our love for the great outdoors with you through our organized public hikes in the stunning Bavarian countryside.
Who it's for
Experience the beauty of nature and push your limits with our inclusive hiking community. Whether you're a seasoned pro or new to the trail, our hikes cater to a range of abilities. If you have any concerns about your fitness level or equipment, simply reach out and we'll work together to find the perfect hike for you. Our diverse group of hikers comes from all over the world, and we communicate primarily in English to make sure everyone feels included.
Good to know
How much does it cost to join a hike?
Nothing. All our hike events are free — but we'd love for you to buy some of our merchandise, grab a membership, or donate so we can keep doing what we do.
What should I bring on a hike?
The basics we recommend for every hike:
Decent walking boots or trail runners — worn in and comfortable
Enough water for the day (at least 2L as a rule of thumb, more in hot weather or on longer routes)
Enough food — unless the event says otherwise, we don't stop at a restaurant or store but take our lunch break in the forest
Each event page lists anything extra you'll need for that specific hike.
How do you measure hiking statistics?
We bring a Garmin GPS on every hike, paired with an ALT+ temperature sensor, and use the recorded data for all user statistics. This means hiking stats aren't 100% personal — they're based on the official event recording. If two people attend exactly the same events, they'll have exactly the same stats.
