Pegnitz Canoeing
About This Route
The Pegnitz river is a beautiful gem, flowing through charming towns and green forests. The 14 km route from Rupprechtstegen to Eschenbach takes about 5 hours of paddling, including breaks. The river has only a few short rapids, and the entire route is signposted for easy navigation. If you're planning on renting a canoe, we've got just the option for you. Chris offers affordable prices and provides excellent service. Plus, he speaks English well and can guide you through the rental and padding process smoothly. We'd recommend to commute on the trains. Simply hop in Bayreuth on the RE 30 train towards Neuhaus (Pegnitz), then transfer to the RB 30 train towards Rupprechtstegen, which is where the route begins. When you're done with the route, we suggest taking a leisurely 20-minute stroll from the finish point (Eschenbach) to Hohenstadt. From there, you can catch the same trains to Bayreuth. To make the most out of your adventure, wear swimming shorts, bring quick dry cloths and boots, a spare set of clothes, 1.5-2 liters of water, your favorite lunch, and sun protection like sunscreen and a hat. Shoutout to @andrew for helping to discover the route and the rental service
