Bayreuth Blueberry Forest

Bayreuth

About This Route

This is one of our favorite hikes because there is no need to take public transport. But also because it's a route that is as beautiful in the winter as it is in summer. The hike is not very difficult in length, technique or elevation so perfect for an easy weekend hike. It owes its name to the many many blueberry bushes in the forest we hike trough. We usually start this route next to the Festspielhaus. From there on out we go to up to Bayreuth's victorytower. At 1/3 we pass a beergarden where during the summer time take a rest and have a refreshing drink or ice. Then we head out again towards Theta, walk trough the town and then past a farm back into the woods. We go up and down a bit trough wide curvy paths. This is also the best place to spot some wildlife. Sometimes when we're lucky we might see a spooked deer running away in the distance. At lunchtime we look for a nice shaded place (at least during the summer) and eat something to strenghten ourselves. The route then curves back towards Bayreuth on the southwest border of the forest. We double back over a little path we did before and then take a new, more narrow path straight trought the forest. At one point we get back onto a bigger gravel road we briefly crossed at the beginning of the hike. Then all that's left is to follow that path untill we return to the Festspielhaus on top of the hill.
