[New route] Weidenberg - Ochsenkopf - Fichtelsee

We are always looking for new and exciting routes to add to our repetoire. That's why last weekend I went to my favourite hiking mapping site, looked for a startingpoint near Bayreuth with a trainstation and set it as a startingpoint.

The route I ended up with was starting in Weidenberg, 15km to the top of Ochsenkopf and then another 5km down to Fichtelsee. From there on I could take the bus back to Bayreuth.

On Friday I decided to put the route to the test. Overall the route is very enjoyable. It features a lot of different surroundings, some in the middle of a green forest and others giving you a beautiful streched view as far as the eye can reach.

But a word of caution, this hike is not for the faintheartet. It's our 3rd difficult hike (according to the difficulty rating) just after Bad Berneck to Ochsenkopf and Pensenberg hike.
The route has a length of 20km but the difficult part is the 900m ascent that we will encounter during these 20km. This hike has inclines of up to 60% for prolongend times which make it difficult at times.

So when doing this route we recommend to bring hiking sticks to make the ascents easier. Foodwise, there is a restaurant on the top of Ochsenkopf, but it's not always open so one might have to bring food on the hike.

To kick off this new route we're organising a hiking event upcoming saturday.

In the meantime, check out photos of this beautiful challenging route:
