Wrap Up
This weekend we spent three amazing days in the Steinwald and Fichtelgebirge. We hiked 30 km with an ascent of 841 m. We ate pizza and wraps, played Mario Kart, and watched inspiring outdoor movies. We saw many beautiful rocks and enjoyed views over wide landscapes with infinite horizons.
On Friday evening, Teejo and Andreas drove us to the starting point, the DAV Steinwaldhütte, where we were given a separate room for our group!
After picking up groceries, we made delicious wraps, had some Russian specialty sweets and played board games. One of games was Taco, Pizza, Cat.. or.. wait: Taco, Cat, Goat!!?
We slept well, and after an early morning breakfast with bread and spreads, we headed out for the 20 km hike in the Steinwald, visiting rocky viewpoints like Saubadfelsen and Oberpfalzturm.
We were so fascinated that we forgot to follow the trail and detoured to the castle Burgruine Weißenstein. Some of us were sledging with the kids, while others were climbing the wall (to capture the tower, right?). Lunch was perfectly timed! The way back was steep and slippery, so we decided to have some fun by sliding down on our butts and by breaking some giant icicles on the way!
When we arrived home, we made pizza, showered, and stretched enough to continue the evening by setting up a projector (!) where Andreas came up with an idea to use his mattress as a screen, lol. We played Mario Kart and watched EOFT outdoor films. Then, we saw another group in the hut go barefoot in the snow outdoors, and afterward, we enjoyed some nice cold therapy! The second night went much better and felt fresher!
On the second day, we had breakfast, packed our things, cleaned the hut, and traveled to Fichtelgebirge, where we headed to Kosseine, enjoying some nice viewpoints along the way. Holding balance on iced steeps was another challenge!
The group was relaxed, chatting and taking photos, which turned our hike into a shorter 10k trip. Emile discovered a deep hole in the ground, and this pause led to a massive snowball fight at the end ; )
Arriving back in Bayreuth, we enjoyed a delightful dinner at a nice Indian restaurant, wrapping up the day and saying goodbye to each other with hopes of getting together again in similar settings!
